A post-doctoral scientist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Joanne Turner at Texas Biomedical Research Institute. The candidate will join a program project grant team with a primary goal of defining how age-associated inflammation drives susceptibility to develop tuberculosis using primary cells from humans and in mouse models. The candidate will be responsible for the analyses of T and B cell function in human donors as they age, and in the context of M. tuberculosis infection. Opportunities exist to work collaboratively on monocyte function in old age in humans, on alveolar macrophages and fluids from the lungs of human donors, and to establish mouse models to test hypotheses that are generated using human samples. The candidate will work within a highly collaborative multi-PI research group studying immune correlates of susceptibility to tuberculosis, with a strong focus on the influence of age and co-morbidities on disease progression. The candidate will report to Dr. Joanne Turner.
