A postdoctoral position is available immediately for a highly motivated candidate to be a part of a dynamic research team focusing at the development of an effective AIDS vaccine at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute (Texas Biomed). The goal of the vaccine research, headed by Dr. Ruth Ruprecht, is to induce specific mucosal IgA and IgG antibodies to achieve immune exclusion of virions, while simultaneously generating backup humoral and cellular immune responses in the blood and tissues. The post-doctoral scientist will focus on mucosal antibody and cell-mediated immune responses in non-human primate models. Targeting vaccines to mucosal tissues also includes a collaboration with the Research Imaging Institute at UT Health San Antonio. The postdoctoral position provides a unique opportunity to conduct research in a vibrant scientific environment.

As a part of this highly collaborative team, the postdoctoral scientist will lead his/her own project, contribute to other lab team projects, and will be able to develop and participate in external collaborations. Career development opportunities (such as mentoring) exist to enhance the professional development of the postdoctoral scientist.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: Required: Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, or DVM) in immunology or virology/microbiology or related scientific discipline with relevant lab experience in mucosal immunology. Preferred: A background in HIV biology and experience working in a biosafety level 2+ setting is preferred but not essential.

This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position. Texas Biomed business hours are Mondays through Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Texas Biomed is committed to a drug-free workplace.
