Public Relations Specialist
The Public Relations Specialist, working closely with the Director of Public Relations, is responsible for implementing a coordinated media (traditional and online) relations, public outreach and marketing plan at the local and national level with the goal of publicizing the Institute as a premiere independent research institute. The public relations specialist will write collateral material for all public relations activities, including internal/employee communications. The specialist will support the organization’s efforts to increase public awareness of the Institute and build support for biomedical research through a variety of avenues that may include public awareness programs, media relations, special events, educational programs and social media. Additionally, the specialist will assist with implementation of employee communications strategies including newsletter writing, video production and editing and employee engagement programs. The specialist may serve as a spokesperson for the Institute.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: Required: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, science writing, biology or related discipline. Publication design, writing, editing and production, as well as social media outreach and monitoring skills are essential to successfully performing in this position. Must be computer literate in word processing programs. Must possess excellent interpersonal, written communication and public speaking skills. Preferred: Experience as a science writer and familiarity with science policy issues. Website development experience is preferred.
OTHER: This is a full-time hourly paid position. Texas Biomed business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Texas Biomed is committed to a drug-free workplace. Pre-employment drug screen is required.
