Veterinary Research Technician I
The Veterinary Research Technician I in the ABSL-4 will provide general care and handling of animals, assist with procedures in support of immunogenicity and efficacy studies. Assist with documentation of data and perform other duties as detailed in job description. Performs other duties as assigned. This position will report to the Veterinary Research Technician Supervisor.
Required: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma.
Preferred: Sixty (60) hours from an accredited college or university or Associate Degree from an accredited college or university OR high school diploma or general equivalency diploma plus experience. Preferred Major: Science
Required: Two or more years of job specific experience.
Preferred: If candidate has 60 hours from an accredited college or university or an Associate’s degree, no experience is required. If candidate has a high school diploma, requires two years of closely related experience. Must be able to demonstrate expertise in their technical field in order to be assigned this classification. Must be able to follow directions as given by supervisor. Experience caring for non-human primates.
Preferred: Experience with assays in support of animal studies including, flow cytometry, ELISA, IFA, PCR and cell culture techniques.
POTENTIAL HAZARDS: This work will involve potential exposure to chemical hazards such as carcinogens (Formalin), toxic materials (Formalin, Trizol). Physical hazards include: Cryogenics (liquid nitrogen) and x-ray equipment. Biological hazards include: Infectious materials (ABSL-2, ABSL-3 or ABSL-4). This work will also involve working with laboratory animals such as Macaque, Rodents (mice, guinea pigs, rats) and other small animals (rabbits, Monodelphis). Potential exists for animal bites and scratches. Must routinely lift 40 pounds and carry for short distances without assistance. Will drive a motor vehicle on Texas Biomed business. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and meet Texas Biomed driving standards. Participation in a medical monitoring and surveillance program is required. Must be able to wear an air-purifying respirator in a proper manner and, if necessary, pass a respirator fitness test.
OTHER: This is a full-time hourly paid position. Texas Biomed business hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional weekend work, holidays and overtime will be required. Texas Biomed is committed to a drug-free workplace. Pre-employment drug screen is required.
