#GivingTuesday is a day to make a difference in our community through a donation of time or financial support. We are excited to be a part of this effort and encourage you to consider Texas Biomed in your giving plans throughout this holiday season. Texas Biomed aims to protect you, your loved ones and our global comunity from the threat of infectious diseases. By the year 2050, infectious diseases will become the number one cause of death in the world, overtaking cancer, heart disease, stroke and Alzheimer’s. We can change this, together!
More than 75 years ago, a 26-year-old philanthropist and businessman had the idea to build a city of science in South Texas. Tom Slick, Jr. had a vision and went on to found what is today Texas Biomedical Research Institute. Tom’s vision was that the scientific endeavor would improve the human condition. He used his resources to better mankind and his foundational philosophy sustains us today…whatever we need to do to better mankind.
Our mission is becoming harder. And, we need to continue investing in the resources necessary to combat growing threats. Threats like MRSA, which killed 9,000 people last year, or the common cold and flu, the latter killing nearly 80,000 people in the United States in 2017. Infectious disease threats include superbugs that are thwarting therapies and infecting more than 2 million people annually – two million is the size of our San Antonio metropolitan area. And, global afflictions like HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and Hepatitis continue sickening and killing millions worldwide. Our scientists are searching for the answers to eradicate these threats…from understanding the basic biology of host-pathogen interactions to the development of new therapeutics and vaccines, our researchers are asking the questions and finding the answers we need to combat infectious diseases.
Science has come to the rescue before and can provide the answers of tomorrow. It is time we put our collective energy, power and support behind combating the threat of infection.
Join our efforts by donating to support life-saving research. We have the opportunity today to take our science from great to phenomenal. We are confident that, together, we can truly change the world. Let’s get started.
