We are searching for an enthusiastic research assistant to conduct laboratory experiments and molecular analyses with malaria parasites. This parasitic disease infects over 400 million people and killed an estimated 214,000 people in 2015. This challenging research project will require excellent organizational skills, meticulous record keeping, culturing of malaria parasites in the laboratory, and preparation of samples for proteomic/metabolomics analyses. The successful candidate will report to Dr. Tim Anderson.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS. Required: Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or related field. Good organizational and laboratory skills, a healthy work ethic, strong interpersonal skills, and a passion for parasites. Preferred: Master’s degree in biological science or related field. Experience with molecular biology, in particular proteomics and/or metabolomics.
POTENTIAL HAZARDS: This position will involve potential exposure to infectious agents. Participation in a medical monitoring and surveillance program is required. Safety training and protective clothing, equipment and supplies will be provided.
OTHER: This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position. Texas Biomed business hours are Monday through Friday – 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional after hours or weekend work may be required.
