Open Rank Faculty Position

Texas Biomedical Research Institute (Texas Biomed) invites applications for an open rank faculty position in the areas of virology, with a specific requirement for utilizing biocontainment level 4 (BSL4) facilities. Applications will be considered at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

Texas Biomed is particularly interested in candidates with active research programs in one of the following areas:

  • Study of pathogens that require access to biocontainment level 4 (BSL4).
  • Pathogenesis of BSL-4 infectious agents in animal models, including non-human primates.
  • Development of vaccines or therapies against BSL-4 pathogens including drug discovery.
  • Transcription, replication, entry and host-pathogen interactions of BSL-4 pathogens.

Texas Biomed is home to the only privately owned BSL4 containment laboratory, which is equipped for both in vitro and in vivo studies. Current research in the BSL4 laboratory includes in vitro studies of Ebola cell entry, pathogenesis of Ebola and Marburg in rodents or non-human primates, and regulated studies of hemorrhagic fever virus vaccines and therapies. Texas Biomed has the capacity to perform Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulated studies and is also the host institute for the Southwest National Primate Research Center.

Texas Biomed has a primary research focus on infectious diseases, including the study of infectious agents that require biocontainment level 3 and 4 laboratories. Investigators at Texas Biomed have research programs on infectious diseases such as Ebola, Zika, HIV, TB, malaria and schistosomiasis, using a variety of animal models and human tissues. Texas Biomed also has a robust research focus on human and non-human primate genomics and complex disease genetics.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: Qualified applicants must have a doctoral degree, (e.g., Ph.D., D.V.M., M.D., etc.) in any biological discipline and proven record of a federally funded independent research program in the areas of virology or related areas of research, as evidenced by appropriate funding and publications. Experience in working with BSL4 infectious agents.

OTHER: This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position. Texas Biomed business hours are Mondays through Fridays – 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central Time. Submit curriculum vitae, a description of research interests, and a portfolio summarizing past research experience with your application.
