Research Focus

Dylan M Johnson, PhD is a virologist dedicated to the development of medical countermeasures, vaccines and therapeutics, against high-consequence RNA viruses. His work spans a broad range of viral families with specific emphasis on arenaviruses, filoviruses, henipahviruses, bunyaviruses, and alphaviruses. A recognized expert in model development, Dr. Johnson has authored descriptions of mucosal transmission models for Ebola virus and pioneering models for Chapare hemorrhagic fever.

Dr. Johnson has served as a principal investigator for biodefense initiatives funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. He brings expertise in the conduct of regulated non-clinical studies in high and maximum containment laboratories. He is an active member of the American Society for Virology where he contributed to efforts to develop guidelines for virology curriculum in higher education.
