Research Focus

Nishant Ranjan, Ph.D., holds formal training in Cell and Molecular Biology and brings over 12 years of research expertise to the field. With a PhD in Neurobiology and a strong foundation in animal model systems, Nishant is deeply committed to exploring the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying brain inflammation and its role in neurological disorders. His work also extends to human cognition that includes neuropsychological assessment using tools such as the WAIS-IV and CANTAB. With diverse experience in the field of infectious disease, animal behavior, physiology, autoimmunity, biochemistry and histopathology, his goal is to identify innovative therapeutic targets and strategies that can improve brain health and function in individuals affected by neurological conditions. At Texas Biomed, he is investigating the potential of phytocannabinoids in preventing cognitive decline in HIV-infected non-human primates. He is also working with clinicians and veterinarians team to evaluate the use of focused ultrasound to enhance drug delivery to the brain and reduce HIV replication, with the goal of improving cognitive outcomes in these non-human primate models. Additionally, Dr. Ranjan serves as the editorial board member of the journal BMC Neuroscience.
