Research Focus
Dr. Perry received her veterinary degree from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine in May of 2000. After completing a residency anatomic veterinary pathology at Cornell University in 2003, she completed a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Pathobiology at Wake Forest University, where her research focus was the role of diet in prostate cancer development. She then served as a contract research pathologist for over 12 years at the Integrated Research Facility, a National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases biosafety level 4 laboratory, dedicated to collaborative research involving high consequence viral pathogens such as filoviruses, arenaviruses, and henipaviruses. At Texas Biomedical Research Institute, Dr. Perry provides diagnostic and research pathology services to support colony management and the research of Staff Scientists. Her interests include animal model development, the mechanisms underlying viral neuroinvasion, and the pathogenesis of virus-associated sensorineural hearing loss.
