Research Focus

Lakmini Premadasa, Ph.D., is a virologist with over a decade of experience in infectious disease research, particularly focusing on HIV pathogenic and therapeutic research using non-human primate animal models. As a Staff Scientist at Texas Biomed in Professor Mahesh Mohan’s lab, she is studying the impact of HIV infection and antiretroviral therapy (ART) and particularly, the effect of long-term, low-dose phyto-cannabinoids as an adjunct to antiretroviral therapy on HIV-associated co-morbidities, such as neuro-cognitive disease and gastro-intestinal disorders. Currently, Dr. Premadasa is primarily researching systemic inflammation as a driver of HIV-associated cardiovascular disease and liver diseases, such as Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and Cholestasis, funded through a Texas Biomedical Forum grant.
