Research Focus

Fatai Oladunni, DVM, PhD, is a dedicated researcher in molecular virology whose primary interest is in vaccine development for significant viral diseases affecting humans and animals.

Dr. Oladunni earned his PhD in virology from the Department of Veterinary Science at the University of Kentucky. During his doctoral studies, he investigated how equine herpesviruses evade the innate immune system in horses by downregulating the type I interferon response. After completing his PhD, Dr. Oladunni trained as a postdoctoral fellow, first at the University of Rochester and later at Texas Biomedical Research Institute. In this role, he focused on influenza A virus and conducted several research projects on SARS-CoV-2, leading to the discovery of highly potent neutralizing antibodies against both viruses. He has published over 25 articles in high-impact journals, including Nature Communications. Dr. Oladunni has now rejoined Texas Biomedical Research Institute as a Scientist II, where he will continue to support our infectious diseases portfolio in the Applied Science and Innovation department.
