SAN ANTONIO (August 31, 2026) — Texas Biomed has received a record $925,000 grant from The Texas Biomedical Forum to provide critical funding to support research aimed at preventing and treating infectious diseases that threaten human health around the world.
Over the past 20 years, the Texas Biomedical Forum has awarded more than $6.5 million in pilot study grants to Texas Biomed scientists. Those seed grants have helped researchers secure more than $90 million in subsequent competitive research funding, primarily from federal agencies including the National Institutes of Health.
“We’re so grateful for the generosity and commitment of The Forum,” said Sara Wise, Vice President of Development at Texas Biomed. “Their longstanding partnership has helped turn promising ideas into research that has impacted countless lives, and we’re honored to have them as an important part of the Texas Biomed community.”
The Forum’s contributions have helped Texas Biomed researchers advance early-stage discoveries into larger research programs. Examples include: a $125,000 investment in malaria and schistosomiasis research that led to $14 million in subsequent funding, a $60,000 grant for a drug-resistant tuberculosis diagnostic that was followed by a $403,000 NIH award, and a $40,000 grant supporting research into the connection between HIV and tuberculosis that led to a $536,000 NIH award.
