Texas Biomed names Jim Newman Vice President, Communications & Marketing

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (September 1, 2026) — Texas Biomed has appointed Jim Newman to the position of Vice President, Communications & Marketing, following a highly competitive national search.

Newman brings more than two decades of communications and marketing leadership experience across biomedical research and health care organizations. His work has focused on translating complex research topics for broad audiences and building trust between scientific institutions and the public.

He brings a wealth of experience communicating the value and impact of biomedical research and engaging audiences around the work of scientific institutions,” said Larry Schlesinger, MD, President and CEO of Texas Biomed. “His national reputation and expertise make him an ideal fit for Texas Biomed, and we are excited to have him lead the Institute’s marketing and outreach efforts.” 

Most recently, Newman served on the leadership team of San Antonio-based K Harvey Brand Partners. He has also held executive communications roles at several leading biomedical institutions. 

Previously, he served as Director of Strategic Communications at Americans for Medical Progress and as Director of External Communications at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He spent 13 years as Director of Media Relations at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and the Oregon National Primate Research Center. 

Earlier in his career, Newman was a television news producer for nearly a decade in the Portland, Oregon; Nashville, Tennessee; South Bend, Indiana; and Lansing, Michigan markets. 

Newman holds a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications from Michigan State University and currently serves as a board member for Americans for Medical Progress.
