Adjunct Professor | Adjunct, Southwest National Primate Research Center

Research Focus

Laura Cox, Ph.D., is a Professor of Molecular Medicine at Wake Forest School of Medicine and an Adjunct Professor at Texas Biomed. Her lab works to identify and characterize the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms involved in developing cardiometabolic diseases.

Prior to joining Wake Forest University in October 2017, Dr. Cox worked with the baboon colony at Southwest National Primate Research Center for more than 20 years. Her group developed many of the genetic and genomic tools currently in use for studies in nonhuman primates related to cardiometabolic diseases, including genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic analysis of small tissue biopsy samples. She continues to collaborate closely with Texas Biomed and SNPRC, including as a co-investigator of the National Institutes of Health P51 grant supporting the primate center.
